Cooperation of JINR with Korean University and RAON project was launched

On 2 April 2019, on the eve of the opening of the First RAON (Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON-line experiment, Daejeon, Korea) Users Workshop, a memorandum of understanding between JINR and the University of Korea was signed. The memorandum was initiated by the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions and the RAON project. The parties named physics with radioactive beams and related instrumentation as the interests of primary importance. Moreover, cooperation in the frames of this document includes active academic exchange.

Staff members of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions JINR A. S. Fomichev, Head of the Sector, L. V. Grigorenko, Chief Researcher, and E. Yu. Nikolsky, Leading Researcher, participated in the festive ceremony of signing. The FLNR staff members came to the RAON Workshop to establish long-term two-party contacts on the ACCULINA-2 project. Reports by the FLNR delegation were made in the KOBRA section (Korea Broad Acceptance Recoil spectrometer and Apparatus). The Korean party at the signing ceremony was represented by Vice-President of the University Prof. Cheung-O An, Dean of the College of Science & Technology HyunKook Kahng, Director of the Center for Advanced Accelerator Science Eun-San Kim as well as professors of the Department of Accelerator Science HyangKyu Park, ChongSik Park and JungBae Bhang.

Participation of the JINR delegation in the first RAON Users Workshop and signing of the memorandum on mutual understanding reflect the result of long-term contacts, as well as continue the course on development of cooperation established during the visit of the delegation from the Republic of Korea to JINR in December 2018.
