First magnets for NICA Collider prepared

News, 11 June 2020

Today, on 11 June 2020, 4 dipole magnets modules for the NICA Collider were delivered to the building No. 1 of the Laboratory High Energy Physics JINR namely the JINR Synchrophasotron hall.

At the moment, there are 8 modules that are fully prepared for installation in the ring in the building No. 1. These elements of the Collider have successfully passed the entire test cycle, and their parameters meet the technical requirements.

As we have already informed, at the end of 2019, all magnets for the NICA Booster were assembled, successfully tested and transported to the tunnel for installation. The assembling and testing of structural elements of the NICA Collider also continued throughout the difficult period of self-isolation. During this time, dipole magnets modules were fully assembled and prepared for transportation to storage until the beginning of installation in the Collider tunnel. Serial bench cryogenic tests of quadrupole magnet modules for the Collider were started at the end of April 2020. Since the beginning of 2020, 16 of the 80 dipole magnets modules for the Collider have been assembled and tested on test stand in the Laboratory High Energy Physics.
