High award of the European Physical Society

News, 24 May 2019

The European Physical Society (EPS) announced presentation of awards in the fields of high energy and particle physics for 2019 to CDF and DZero collaborations for the discovery of t-quark and a detailed study of its properties. The awarding ceremony will be held in the first half of July 2019 at the EPS-HEP International Conference in Ghent, Belgium.

Staff members of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems took part in both experiments. Members of the CDF collaborations from DLNP are A. M. Artikov, J. A. Budagov, V. V. Glagolev, F. V. Prokoshin, O. E. Pukhov, A. A. Semenov, A. V. Simonenko, I. A. Suslov, A. N. Sissakian, G. A. Chlachidze, D. Sh. Chokheli. All of them made a substantial contribution to the modernization of the CDF facility in 1992 – 1999 as well as to the analysis and processing of the experiment’s results in 2000 – 2012. They developed more than 600 large scintillation counters for a muon trigger, electronics and a trigger for the secondary vertex of the facility as well as measured the mass of the top quark with high accuracy.

Members of the DZero collaborations from DLNP: V. M. Abazov, G. D. Alexeev, L. S. Vertogradov, J. L. Vertogradova, A. Yu. Verkheev, G. A. Golovanov, V. L. Malyshev, Yu. P. Merekov, B. M. Sabirov, N. B. Skachkov, V. V. Tokmenin, Yu. N. Kharzheev, Yu. A. Yatsunenko. They created detectors and electronics for the front-end muon systems of the DZero facility. As members of the collaboration, they participated in the study of properties of the top quark. Moreover, they made a decisive contribution to the discovery of heavy b-hyperons and to the study of hadron multiparton interactions.

It should be noted that the High Energy and Particle Physics Prize is an award of the European Physical Society for an outstanding contribution to high energy physics. It has been awarded since 1989 every two years at the European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics.

We congratulate members of the CDF and DZero collaborations on receiving a high award!
