Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus

Organization, 03 July 2022

3 July marks the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus (Republic Day), a Member State of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

The Republic of Belarus, as part of the USSR, joined JINR based on the Agreement signed on 26 March 1956. As a sovereign republic, Belarus has been a Member State of JINR since 1992.

More than 20 scientific centres and universities of the Republic of Belarus cooperate with JINR to date in the fields of theoretical physics, particle physics, nuclear physics, and condensed matter physics within scientific themes and projects conducted at JINR. Industrial enterprises of Belarus greatly contribute to the cooperation by producing unique equipment for modern detectors at facilities in Dubna and scientific centres cooperating with JINR.

Scientists from Belarus take part in 28 topics of the JINR Topical Plan 2022.

Belarusian organizations develop and supply mechanical structures and products, as well as serial batches of circuit boards, integrated circuits, and low-voltage power systems, and gas detectors for the NICA mega-science project.

JINR in its turn also conducts scientific and applied studies in the interests of the Republic of Belarus. Thus, starting from 2005, employees of the Laboratory of Neutron Physics JINR conduct ecological studies of air in the Republic of Belarus. Moreover, in 2021, structural studies of unique optical materials, so-called silicate glasses doped with Cu2Se and europium nanoparticles, were conducted by FLNP JINR specialists in collaboration with researchers from the Kazan Federal University and Belarusian scientists from the Research Institute of Physical and Chemical Problems of the Belarusian State University and the Sukhoi State Technical University of Gomel.

In the past months, a number of high-level meetings with the JINR participation were held. On 18 May, Gatchina hosted a joint meeting of the boards of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and the State Committee on Science and Technology (SCST) of the Republic of Belarus. JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov tool part in it. On 6 June 2022, a joint meeting of the Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia on Economic Policy and the Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly on Budget and Finance took place in the JINR International Conference Hall. One of the topics discussed at the event was the production of resonators for scientific accelerator complexes. They are planned for production in Belarus with JINR participation. On the same days, Academician Secretary of the Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Informatics of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus Alexander Shumilin met with JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov.

The Directorate of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research congratulates Belarusian colleagues and partners, as well as their relatives, on the national holiday and wishes them good health, happiness, well-being, luck, and new professional successes for the benefits of science and progress.
