JINR Days in Mongolia

On 6 June 2016, a representative delegation of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, headed by JINR Director RAS Academician V.A.Matveev arrived in Mongolia to participate in ceremonial events dedicated to the 60th anniversary of JINR. The programme of the”JINR Days in Mongolia” included a number of official meetings and the 6th International Conference on Contemporary Physics ICCP-IV which was held on 7-10 June in the National University of Mongolia (NUM).

The JINR delegation in Ulaanbaatar consisted of JINR Chief Scientific Secretary N.A.Russakovich, LIT Director V.V.Korenkov, UC Director S.Z.Pakuliak, Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D.V.Kamanin, FLNR Deputy Director S.I.Sidorchuk, LRB Scientific Secretary I.V.Koshlan, Head of the FNLP Division of Condensed Matter Research and Development A.V.Belushkin, Coordinator of the collaboration with Mongolia, knight of the Mongolian Order of the Polar star M.G.Loshchilov, Head of the Mongolian national group O.Chuluunbaatar. Participant of the conference from most of the JINR laboratories came together with the delegation to participate in the celebration of the JINR 60th anniversary in Ulaanbaatar.

From the Mongolian side the JINR delegation was welcomed by Plenipotentiary Representative of the government of Mongolia in JINR Professor S.Davaa, Secretary and Head of the Executive office of the Nuclear Energy Commission of the Government of Mongolia G.Manlaijav and Head of the Foreign Affairs Division of the Executive office of the Nuclear Energy Commission B.Tuyatseseg.

The ceremonial opening of the JINR Days in Mongolia was held on 6 June in the National University of Mongolia. The given speeches emphasized the role of JINR in development of scientific research in Mongolia, on the one hand, and, on the other, the active position of Mongolian scientists in all major areas of the JINR activities throughout time since the foundation of JINR. The opening was attended by representatives of embassies of Belarus, Laos, and France.

The next part of the celebration, immediately after the ceremonial meeting, was the opening of a poster exhibition dedicated to the present-day JINR and participation of Mongolia in JINR activities. In the exhibition hall, with the participation of the Plenipotentiary Representative of Mongolia and the Secretary of the Nuclear Energy Commission, JINR Director Victor Matveev awarded JINR honorary diplomas and medals to 33 Mongolian honored scientists who worked at JINR and contributed to the development of scientific cooperation with.

On 7 June, the JINR delegation met Senior Vice-President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Academician D.Redgel and MAS Secretary-General Professor T.Galbaatar. During the conversation, they discussed the importance of participation of Mongolia in JINR for both parties, new scientific projects of JINR and modern educational programmes, search for new instruments for development of cooperation.

The opening of the conference was also preceded by a meeting with NUM President Dr. R.Bat-Erdnene and the ceremonial awarding of the title “Doctor Honoris Causa of the National University of Mongolia” to JINR Director V.A.Matveev. In the past, JINR Directors N.N.Bogoliubov and V.G.Kadyshevsky were awarded this honorary title.

On 8 June, at the end of the official programme of the visit to Ulaanbaatar, JINR Director, accompanied by the JINR Chief Scientific Secretary, the UC Director and the Head of ICD, were welcomed in the Government of Mongolia by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science L.Gantamur.

One of the results of the visit of the JINR delegation to Mongolia was the establishment of the Bilateral Committee on Cooperation Development and improvised holding of its first meeting. The Protocol of the Committee’s decisions primarily included planned specific steps to inform Mongolian scientific community about the present-day JINR and measures to support the involvement of young scientists in JINR activities. In particular, a visit to Dubna of a NUM delegation headed by the NUM President and holding a School of young scientists in JINR fields of research in 2017 in Mongolia were planned.
