The Russian Federation, as a part of the USSR, joined JINR according to the agreement signed on 26 March 1956. As a sovereign state, the Russian Federation became a legal successor, and RF is a JINR member state from 1991.

The JINR activity in Russia is subject to Federal Law “On the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research on the Location and Terms of Activity of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in the Russian Federation” as of 2 January 2000 signed by Vladimir Putin.

The Russian Federation is top partner of Joint Institute. JINR collaborates with about 150 research centres, universities, undertakings and firms of 40 Russian cities.

About 60% of institute research scientists are Russian Federation citizens. Almost all employees in service departments are Russian Federation citizens.

Major collaboration areas:

The participation of scientists from Russian centres in institute research programme, i.e. a work on basic JINR facilities – Nuclotron, pulse reactor IBR-2M, isochronous cyclotrons of heavy ions.

The participation of employees from all JINR member states in works on basic facilities and in research programmes of Russian scientific centres: IPHE (Protvino), INR RAS (Troitsk), RNC Kurchatov Institute (Moscow), B.P. The JINR cooperation with Russian universities has a specific meaning, because here we are dealing with training of specialists, i.e. scientific change. The geography of cooperation covers all of the RF territory. There is SINP MSU branch in Dubna.

JINR Academic Centre was created in 1991. Here students of MSU, MEPhI, MIPT, MSIREEA and other RF universities graduate under the supervision of leading JINR scientists with practice in its laboratories. JINR has close contacts with International University of Nature, Society and Human “Dubna”.

The effectiveness of cooperation is expressed with significant quantity of publications from authors of Russian scientific centres and universities. Another cooperation factor is preparation and defence of dissertations by scientists from Russian scientific centres.

One more area is related to the link with home industry. The Russian industry is used to fulfil orders for scientific purposes. Projects, which are done with accelerators in other countries, for instance, Russia-JINR-CERN, Russia-JINR- FNAL, are often the basis for a such cooperation.
