Russian Federation

General information on collaboration

Russian Federation, as part of USSR, joined JINR according to an agreement signed on 26 March 1956. As a sovereign state, Russian Federation became a legal successor, and has been a JINR member-state since 1991.

JINR activity in Russia is subject to Federal Law “On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, on Location and Terms of Activity of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in the Russian Federation”, signed by Vladimir Putin on 2 January 2000.

Russian Federation is a leading partner of the Institute. JINR collaborates with over 150 research centres, universities, organizations and firms in 40 cities in Russia.

About 60% of the institute’s research scientists are Russian citizens. Almost all employees in its service departments are Russian citizens.

Major collaboration areas:

Participation of scientists from Russian research centres in the institute research programme, i.e. work at basic JINR facilities – Nuclotron, pulse reactor IBR-2M, isochronous cyclotrons of heavy ions.

Participation of employees from all JINR member-states in the work on basic facilities, and in research programmes of Russian scientific centres: IPHE (Protvino), INR RAS (Troitsk), RNC Kurchatov Institute (Moscow), B.P. Konstantinov PINP (Gatchina), PEI (Obninsk), IPTT (Chernogolovka), NRSRIEP (Saratov), IHCS SB RAS (Tomsk), INP SB RAS (Novosibirsk), LPI, SINP MSU (Moscow) and etc.

Collaboration in the field of theoretical research, educational programmes, summer schools and conferences. Educational programme is developed in close collaboration with leading Russian universities. JINR cooperation with Russian universities is of special significance, because it involves training of specialists, preparing a new generation of researchers . The geography of cooperation covers all of Russian Federation. There is a SINP MSU branch in Dubna.

JINR Academic Centre was created in 1991. Here students of MSU, MEPhI, MIPT, MSIREEA and other RF universities graduate under the supervision of leading JINR scientists with practice in its laboratories. JINR has close contacts with International University of Nature, Society and Human “Dubna”.

Effectiveness of this cooperation can be seen by the significant number of publications authored by researchers from Russian scientific centres and universities. Another cooperation area concerns preparation and defense of dissertations by scientists from Russian scientific centres.

One more sphere is related to creating and maintaining links with domestic industries. Russian companies in various industries are used to fulfill orders for scientific projects. Such as projects with accelerators in other countries, for example Russia-JINR-CERN, Russia-JINR- FNAL, which provide an oppostunity for such cooperation.

Special economic zone “Dubna”

In accordance with the Government Decree from 21 December 2005, a Special economic zone for technology and innovation was established on the territory of Dubna. Special economic areas for technology and innovation are created to increase interest in projects undertaken in Russia on the global market of high-technology products; it is a concentration mechanism of intellectual and other resources on a specific territory, aiming to solve high-priority issues in the scientific and technology spheres.
