Science Forum: South Africa – 2015

The Science Forum: South Africa – 2015 was held on December 8-9, 2015 in Pretoria, South Africa; The Forum brought together more than 1000 representatives of scientific research and educational organizations in the International Convention Center.

JINR, which is the long term South African scientific partner, having had a successful working relationship with South African Department of Science and Technology along with several large research organizations, was represented by JINR Vice-Director Grigory Trubnikov, Head of the JINR International cooperation department Dmitry Kamanin, Deputy Director of the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics Otilia Culicov, Chief of the Scientific department of the FLNP Sergey Culicov, and the representative of the International cooperation department Anastasia Suschevich, are participating in the Science Forum: South Africa – 2015. Grigory Trubnikov made a presentation on prospects in particle physics, mega projects in the fields of nuclear physics, neutrino physics and study of nuclear matter under extreme conditions.

JINR was also represented in the Science Forum Exhibition having built an informational branded booth, demonstrating scientific and educational activities of JINR, the history of international cooperation with the Ministry of science and technology and scientific organizations of the Republic of South Africa, numbering over 10 years, as well as the JINR major international projects of and achievements to attract an interested audience and establish new scientific and business contacts. The JINR pavilion was visited by the Minister of science and technology Naledi Pandor, Plenipotentiary representative of the RSA Government in JINR Thomas Auf der Heyde, UNESCO representative in the Republic of South Africa Ms. Peggy Oti-Boateng, Director General of the Department of science and technology Phil Mjwara, Minister of science and technology of Angola Maria Candida Teikseira, Attaché for science of the Embassy of France in South Africa Jean-Paul Toutain, and others.

The main objectives of the Forum are to create a platform for the discussion of the role of science, technology and innovation, to develop international partnership of RSA organizations in these areas, as well as to create a basis for fruitful interaction between senior government leaders, academics, scientists, industry, civil society, and students to interact.
