On 14 – 15 November, Rector of North Ossetian State University (NOSU) Alan Ogoev visited JINR. A number of working meetings were held with the leadership of the Institute and Directors of laboratories participating in joint scientific and educational projects. In addition, Alan Ogoev together with a delegation of employees and students of NOSU takes part in the JINR Autumn School of IT, which is taking place from 14 to 18 November at the Laboratory of Information Technologies JINR (MLIT).

The results of five-year JINR-NOSU cooperation, the development of scientific and innovative cooperation between the organizations and other partners in the region of the IC JINR in the South of Russia, were discussed at the meeting with JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov. In particular, cooperation between NOSU and JINR on personnel training and scientific interdisciplinary projects was noted. The parties discussed further cooperation on applied research. Thus, a JINR school on applied research is planned to be held at the IC JINR on the basis of NOSU next spring.

Another topic of the meeting was preparation for scientific events with JINR participation, dedicated to the future fifth anniversary of the first JINR Infocentre at NOSU. “We would like a working meeting with the leadership of the Republic to take place during the visit of the JINR delegation. Signing of an agreement between the region and JINR may be its result. We will offer concrete steps for the development of basic science in North Ossetia in the promising for the country areas,” Alan Ogoev commented.

The emphasis on applied research was made during Alan Ogoev’s working meetings with Directors of the Laboratory of Information Technologies Vladimir Korenkov, the Laboratory of Neutron Physics Valery Shvetsov, and the Laboratory of Radiation Biology (LRB) Aleksandr Bugay, as well as Deputy Head for Science of the Centre of Applied Physics of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions Alexander Nechaev.

Director of the first JINR Information Centre on the basis of NOSU Nelli Pukhaeva commented on the experience of the cooperation between NOSU and JINR. Therefore, NOSU, LRB, and MLIT work on the creation of an IT ecosystem based on machine learning methods and data analysis technologies for solving tasks in the field of neurophysiology. Work on creation of interactive map of medical plants of North Ossetia is already underway. Computing cluster included in the JINR cloud operates at NOSU. Training is conducted based on the cluster, which allows university students to master work on the advanced computing architectures. NOSU participates in the MPD Collaboration of the NICA Collider. Employees and students of the University develop elements for a time-projection chamber (TPC). Computing cluster is also used for solving research tasks of the NICA Project. Under the leadership of researchers from the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems JINR, University students modernised a database monitoring system.

North Ossetian University takes an active part in the joint projects with MLIT JINR. The joint IT School for students from NOSU and the Region was held for the fourth year. They also complete their graduation theses under the supervision of scientists of the Joint institute. It is with this aim that the students of NOSU participate in the JINR Autumn School of Information Technologies, which is taking place these days.
