Visit of IAEA Deputy Director General to JINR

On 25 – 26 October 2017, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Dazhu Yang who heads the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation visited JINR. Mr. Dazhu Yang arrived in Dubna accompanied by Andrei Chupov, Programme Management Officer of the IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation.

In accordance with the programme, Mr. Yang visited the JINR sites and got acquainted with the major directions and results of activities of the JINR’s five laboratories – FLNP, FLNR, DLNP, LRB, VBLHEP, including the progress on the implementation of the flagship project of JINR – the NICA Collider. During the meetings and negotiations with members of the JINR Directorate and Directors of JINR laboratories, the honored guest was informed about practical experience of cooperation between JINR and the IAEA, as well as about readiness of JINR to expand and diversify its participation in the IAEA projects. It was noted that a number of the directions of the JINR activities, primarily, in the fields of scientific personnel training, organization of internships, performing scientific research has the potential for expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The visit of Mr. Yang was preceded by a visit to JINR of Mr. Martin Krause, Director of the Division for Europe of the Department of Technical Cooperation, IAEA on 12 October. On the results of the visit of Mr. Krause Notes for file containing ideas for further development of cooperation between the IAEA and JINR were compiled.

The present visit of IAEA Deputy Director General Mr. Dazhu Yang was held at times of presently developing practical contact between JINR and the IAEA; and this visit reflects growing mutual interest in cooperation. So, in the frames of the celebration of its 60th anniversary JINR participated in the exhibition at the General Conference of the IAEA for the first time, and the Agreement on cooperation between JINR and the IAEA in several areas was signed on 13 April 2016 in Moscow.
