On 9 November, a delegation of the Embassy of the United Mexican States to the Russian Federation headed by Ambassador Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno visited JINR.

The Joint Institute prepared an interesting programme of the visit of high guests that included acquaintance with the JINR scientific infrastructure. The delegation visited the Laboratory of High Energy Physics and the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, as well as attended the JINR interactive exhibition.

The visit of the high guest coincided with the JEMS-19 training programme held these days. The Mexican delegation joined participants of the internship for the lecture by D. V. Kamanin, Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department, on international cooperation of the Institute.

The programme was concluded at a meeting with representatives of the JINR Directorate headed by Vice-Directors of the Institute Vladimir Kekelidze and Latchesar Kostov.

Vladimir Kekelidze noted the existing cooperation experience between the Joint Institute and Mexico, as well as a mutual interest in further strengthening of contacts. Participants noted that the number of Mexican scientists engaged in cooperation with the Institute had increased, and the number of joint publications had reached 50 per year. Mexican universities are interested in participating in the NICA project, in particular, the consortium of Mexican universities has been already working on one of the MPD detector’s elements according to the Agreement signed on 12 October 2019 in Mexico.

H.E. Norma Bertha Pensado Moreno shared her impressions of the visit to JINR and highlighted that “to be here is an interesting experience not only because of the outstanding work done by the Institute’s specialists but also because of the prospects for the cooperation development between the scientific communities of JINR and Mexico.” Participants of the meeting in the Directorate noted the considerable potential of Mexican scientists, in particular, in theoretical physics. In this regard, H. E. Ambassador proposed organizing video conferences for knowledge exchange with Mexican scientific institutions.
