Hefei and Dubna actively develop scientific contacts

On 31 May 2019, a delegation from the Hefei city of the People’s Republic of China visited the Joint Institute. The delegation was represented by Chairman of the Board of the Hefei Industrial Investment Holding Fengshan Yong, Director of the Science and Technology Office of Hefei Qunying Huang, Director of the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASHIPS) Yingjian Wang accompanied by CASHIPS associate professor Zhenzhu Wang, Deputy-Director of the Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Hefei Yuntao Song, Director of the Hefei Science and Technology Office Fang Hong, Head of the Department of Hefei Industrial Investment Holding Sichen Wang, and Administrative Director of the CAS Ion Medical Center Lu Liu.

In the JINR Directorate, the Chinese delegation was welcomed by Assistant to JINR Director G. D. Shirkov, Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department D. V. Kamanin, and Director of the Laboratory of Radiation Biology, RAS Corresponding Member E. A. Krasavin.

One of the key aims of the visit was to discuss opportunities for the development of cooperation with JINR in the fields of accelerating equipment and radiation medicine. The parties noted long-lasting and fruitful cooperation of JINR with the Institute of Plasma Physics. Contacts with this Institute has been actively developing from year to year. In particular, on 30 May in Moscow, an addendum to the 2nd stage of the Agreement on scientific cooperation between ASIPP and JINR and participation of the CAS Hefei Centre of Medical and Technical Equipment in it was signed in presence of President of the Russian Academy of Sciences A. M. Sergeev, Head of the Anhui province Li Jinbin, and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Li Hui. The Agreement increases the existing contacts between JINR and IPP that have resulted in the signing of the first agreement in 2015 as well as meetings in the frames of the Intergovernmental Russian-Chinese Expert Group.

The guests expressed their vivid interest in the information presented at the meeting by E. A. Krasavin who reported on LRB scientific research in the fields of biophysics and proton therapy. The Chinese party highly appreciated the JINR expertise in accelerating physics and expressed hope for further strengthening of the cooperation and implementation of new projects, especially in view of the construction of the Ion Medical Centre in Hefei. Furthermore, the Chinese party expressed its interest in extending scientific contacts in the frames of the NICA project. The parties marked the exchange of scientific visits of young scientists between JINR and Hefei scientific centres as a new promising direction of the cooperation development.

During the visit, the delegation was acquainted with the objects of the JINR scientific infrastructure. The guests visited the factory of superconducting magnets and the NICA collider complex being constructed in the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics. They also learned about opportunities and development prospects of the Medico-Technical Complex of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems.
