JINR-BMBF: towards implementation of the Declaration of Intent

On 13 November 2019, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) visited JINR. The delegation was represented by Jürgen Kroseberg, an officer of the Department “Universe and matter”, Thomas Gawlowski, an officer of the division “Cooperation with Eastern Partnership Countries, Russia and Asia”, and Maximilian Jedemann, an officer of the Division “Large International Research Facilities GSI, DESY“.

The visit of the German delegation was organized in the frames of the joint Declaration of Intent between JINR and BMBF signed on 12 November in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in Moscow. The aim of the visit to Dubna was to discuss the issues of the implementation of the signed document, as well as the present state of and prospects for the JINR-Germany cooperation. Deputy Head of the JINR International Cooperation Department A. A. Kotova, as well as JINR staff members from Germany V. Kleinig, a BLTP Senior Researcher, and U. Meyer, Advisor to the JINR Director, took part in the discussion. The parties discussed organizational issues of the participation in joint scientific projects, as well as drafting of reports on implemented projects. The participants of the meeting discussed also the steps to implement the full associate membership of Germany in the Joint Institute and the development of future cooperation in the framework of the Roadmap for Russian-German cooperation signed last year.

According to the programme of the visit, the members of the German delegation were acquainted with the objects of the JINR scientific infrastructure. They visited the construction site of the NICA mega-science project and the factory of superconducting magnets in the Laboratory of High Energy Physics, the IBR-2 research reactor and the spectrometer complex in the Laboratory of Neutron Physics, and the Superheavy Element Factory in the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions.

The milestones of the visit were summed up at the final working lunch with the participation of leading specialists of the JINR laboratories. The parties discussed the details of the implementation plan of the signed Declaration of Intent for the upcoming year. FLNR Deputy Director A. G. Popeko, VBLHEP Deputy Director G. G. Khodzhibagiyan, FLNP Deputy Director E. V. Lychagin and Head of the FLNP Group Ch. Scheffzuek took part in the discussion on behalf of JINR.
