Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia
Organization, 21 September 2022
21 September marks the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia, a JINR Member State. The Republic of Armenia, as part of the USSR, joined JINR since its foundation based on the Agreement signed on 26 March 1956. As a sovereign republic, Armenia has been a JINR Member State since 1992.
Scientists from Armenia take part in 20 topics of the Topical Plan for JINR Research and International Cooperation. The collaboration covers joint research on particle physics, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics, materials science, nanotechnology, and energy. Armenian employees are also interested in IT and JINR educational programmes.
JINR and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA) regularly organize joint conferences and seminars. In October 2021, the V International Conference “Modern problems of genetics, radiobiology, radioecology, and evolution” was held in Nor-Amberd (Armenia). On 28 January 2022, a meeting on prospects for scientific cooperation in the fields of bioinformatics, molecular and computational biophysics was organized for scientists from JINR, Russia, and Armenia in MLIT JINR. On 18 April, the International Symposium on Problems of Simulation of Biomolecular Complexes and Interaction with Materials Nanoparticles was held on the platform of the JINR Information Centre at Yerevan State University. From 10 to 16 July 2022, the XVIII International Conference on Symmetry Methods in Physics (SYMPHYS-XVIII) was held in Yerevan. The Conference was organized by the International Centre for Advanced Studies at Yerevan State University in collaboration with BLTP JINR.
A world–famous JINR scientist of Armenian origins is FLNR Scientific Leader RAS Academician Yuri Ts. Oganessian. With his decisive participation, 10 chemical elements have been discovered. On 14 April 2022, the Central Bank of Armenia introduced a commemorative coin dedicated to the chemical element oganesson (Og) named in his honour.
This year, a number of high-level meetings have been held between representatives of the JINR Directorate and NAS RA, as well as leaders of the Member State. On 18 April 2022, President of NAS RA Ashot Sagyan visited JINR. From 14 to 16 April, a delegation of the Joint Institute headed by JINR Director RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov visited Armenia by invitation of NAS RA. On 15 April, during their visit to Yerevan, Grigory Trubnikov and Yuri Oganessian were welcomed by Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.
The Institute’s Directorate congratulates Armenian colleagues on Independence Day and wishes them and their families good health and well-being, successful work, scientific achievements, and discoveries for the benefit of science and progress!
