Organization, 02 September 2022

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a JINR Member State, celebrates Independence Day on 2 September. This holiday has been celebrated since the proclamation of the independence of the state in 1945 and the formation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Vietnam has been a JINR Member State since 1956. At present, Vietnamese scientists participate in studies on 12 topics of the JINR Topical Plan of research work and international cooperation. In recent years, JINR-Vietnam cooperation has been increasing very intensively and is taking place in both basic and applied research as well as in the field of personnel training.

In November 2019, a session of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries was held in Vietnam. A conference “Challenges and Opportunities for International Cooperation in Natural Sciences” was held as part of the CP session. Participants of the CP session discussed, in particular, support and expansion of the joint scientific programme, the creation of a joint laboratory based on the planned research reactor in Vietnam, participation of Vietnam in the JINR programmes of personnel training, active involvement of new partners from Southeast Asia into joint projects.

In 2022 a team of employees of FLNP JINR and Vietnamese scientific centres was awarded the second JINR Prize for a cycle of works on geometrically frustrated magnetic materials important for the development of advanced generation devices for spintronics, nanoelectronics, information recording and storage.

On 17 March 2021, the first meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) on Vietnam-JINR cooperation was held in the video conference format.

On 22 August 2022, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia organised a visit to JINR for Vietnamese pupils and students studying in Moscow. They were given guided tours of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, the Museum of Science and Technology of JINR, and the exhibition “JINR Basic Facilities” in the Cultural Centre “Mir”.

The Institute’s Directorate congratulates Vietnamese colleagues on Independence Day and wishes them and their families good health and well-being, successful work, scientific achievements and discoveries for the benefit of science and progress!
